- To calculate the ideal diameter for your fixture in most rooms, add the dimensions (length and width) of the room together in feet, then switch that number to inches. As an example, if the dimensions of your room are 12 feet by 14 feet, the fixture should be about 26 inches in diameter.
- For a dining room, you’ll want to do that calculation a bit differently. Make the size of the dining table what you work off of. We recommend the light fixture be about a foot narrower in diameter than the width of the table, and at least 4 feet away from the walls of the room. For height, hang the chandelier at least 30 inches above the table. And of course, make sure it’s centered above the table.
- Work with the scale of the room. For any large space, don’t be afraid to showcase a large chandelier to make a big statement.
